Monday 22nd June
Good morning everyone! Hope you are all keeping well! Thank you all for joining us in the Zoom Graduation ceremony on Friday night. I really hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! It was just lovely to see you all on the night. I really enjoyed seeing so many of you on my rounds to drop the goodie bags to you. I was looking forward to seeing you in person and I am delighted that I was able to meet you before graduation. I hope you all had a great weekend celebrating.
If you took part in sports day activities send me an email to let me know and I can send you on your certificate.
We have one final class zoom on Tuesday at 12:30pm. I will send your parents the details of the zoom. We are just going to have a chat about your plans, what you have been doing and what you thought of the graduation. Maybe we will even watch the videos again if we have time. The class will be very informal so please feel free to chat and tell me all your news. Don't be shy!
See you all on Tuesday!

So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Not been at school in so long
Forget your teacher’s name
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year, but
I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)
You're still in bed at ten
And work began at eight
You've burned your breakfast, so far
Things are going great
Your mother warned you there'd be days like these
But she didn't tell you when the world has brought
You down to your knees and
I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)
No one could ever know me
No one could ever see me
Seems you're the only one who knows
What it's like to be me
Someone to face the day with
Make it through all the rest with
Someone I'll always laugh with
Even at my worst, I'm best with you, yeah
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year
I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you

English:
- Spellbound Unit 30: Homophones- A&B and learn Box 1
- Reading Zone Unit 30 The Conger Eel - Read the story twice (the vocab in this story is quite tricky) and do meanings and sentences for the following words;
Maths:
- Mental Maths p. 172 A (planet maths book)
- Planet Maths Topic 29: Variables (algebra) pg 181 A+B
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmLb9SJHlgU (algebra explained- optional).
x + 20 = 100
- This could also be written as: ⬜ + 20 = 100 (it probably makes better sense this way)
- What you are doing in your head now is saying “something plus 20 makes 100.” You possibly know the answer now.
- What you’re actually doing is getting rid of the 20 so that the x is on its own. To do that we take away 20 from each side of the equals.
- On one side we are left with just the x and on the other side we have 100-20.
- So now x = 100 -20
- 100- 20 = 80
- So x = 80
7y = 42
- When the number and the letter appear right beside each other with no number in between it means 7 times the unknown number.
- So, 7 x ⬜ = 42. Does it make better sense now?
- Again work backwards… y = 42 divided by 7
- y = 6

- What you actually done in your head - without realising) is multiplied both sides by 5 (which got rid of it on one side) and on the other side we have 8 x 5 = 40

So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Not been at school in so long
Forget your teacher’s name
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year, but
I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)
You're still in bed at ten
And work began at eight
You've burned your breakfast, so far
Things are going great
Your mother warned you there'd be days like these
But she didn't tell you when the world has brought
You down to your knees and
I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)
No one could ever know me
No one could ever see me
Seems you're the only one who knows
What it's like to be me
Someone to face the day with
Make it through all the rest with
Someone I'll always laugh with
Even at my worst, I'm best with you, yeah
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year
I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)
I'll be there for you
I'll be there for you

Friday 22nd May
Hi Girls! I really enjoyed our Zoom meeting today and it was great to see you all. I miss you all and I am looking forward to seeing you all on Zoom again soon! I have put some photos that you have sent me on the blog section and the results of the Sea Theme art competition are now up on the Blog section of our class blog. It has been another hard job this week so I really needed a panel of judges (you know who they are!) to help me.
Thank you for sending your work this week to me for feedback. I have recorded all work you have sent on my list and have given feedback to you all on your work. Well done and keep up the great work!
Take care and have a lovely weekend,
Mrs. McCartan
Important Note -Zoom Meeting
Good morning girls! Thank you to all of you who have sent me the consent forms for our Zoom meeting on Friday 22nd at 2pm. Please remember we can only send the Zoom meeting details to the parents who have given consent. The details of the Zoom meeting will be sent to your parent email that I correspond with each week on Thursday. Please get your parents to email me if they have not received my email about the Zoom meeting consent. My email is [email protected]. I need to have these consents by Thursday at 3pm so we can set up our meeting and send you the details.
Many thanks,
Mrs. McCartan
Work for week 18th May - 22nd May
Good morning girls! I hope you and your families are all keeping well and that you had a nice weekend. There are lots of important things on this week so make sure you read my note carefully and make sure your parents do too.
I have sent your parents two different emails at 9 am Monday 18th May. Please get your parents to check their junk mail if they do not receive them. If they still cannot find it then please make sure they contact me as soon as possible by email and I will send it by return email. As always my email address is: [email protected]
The first email consists of guidelines and a consent form for a Zoom online meeting for 6th class girls along with the teachers and Mrs. McCloughan that is scheduled for Friday 22nd May 2020 at 2pm. You do not have to take part in the meeting but we would love to see you if it is possible. You must have filled in the consent form and emailed it back to me by Thursday 21st at 3pm, otherwise you cannot take part.
Please read through all of the guidelines with your parent before Friday's meeting. We are really looking forward to seeing you and just having a chat to see how you are getting on. It is not a lesson so don't worry!
The second email is very important. It is a letter explaining what your transition from primary to post-primary school involves and it also includes two attachments. One is a form that you fill out yourself as a student and the other is a form for your parents to fill out. It is important that you take the time to fill these out properly as these will be sent to the secondary school that you will be attending at a later date by our school. The letter in the email will explain further. Please fill in the forms online and send them back to me by email as soon as possible but no later than this Friday 22nd May. Again, please use my school email as above.
Thank you to you all and I look forward to seeing you on Friday!
Mrs. McCartan

5th May 2020
Good morning girls! I hope you had a lovely bank holiday weekend!
Thank you so much to all of you who have sent me your work and emailed me to let me know how you are getting on. If you haven't been in touch then I would ask that you send an email to me at [email protected] to let me know if you have not received an email from me yet. Perhaps it is because your correct email address is not on our system and we would like to make sure that we have the correct one. We will start to make contact by phone later this week to check how you are if you have not been in contact by then.
Please find the work for the week below. I have also included all of the helpful slides and worksheets beneath the work for the week when you scroll down.
After the homework and helpful sheets are the answers to last week's work. If you have not corrected your work already then please correct it before starting your work from this week. It is important for you and your parents to see how you are getting on as well as myself!
This week I would like you to email me the following work when it is complete:
1. Meanings and sentences from Reading Zone (Tuesday's work)
2. Sin É questions 1-8 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please do not send them until Wednesday when they have all been completed.
3. Origami Art on Wednesday (or when it is completed - this is optional)
4. SESE - famous woman - 5 interesting facts (Thursday's homework)
I would love to see your active charts to put up on the blog if any of you completed them! Keep sending me photos of any activities you are doing such as getting out and about, baking, artwork etc.
Have a great week girls. Keep in a routine. Now that we know we are not going back to the school building until September, I want you to remember that we are still a class and I really encourage you to do your best! I am here to help you. We may soon be starting to have contact with you as a class via video so watch this space! It would be so nice to see all of your lovely faces! Don't be worrying too much about missing out on things at school. I know it is very disappointing to think we won't be back in the classroom together before the summer holidays but we will definitely do something together. Myself and the other 6th class teachers are in constant contact and we are trying to come up with some nice ideas for a graduation or to meet with you in some way as a class while still in keeping with the rules set out by the government. If you have ideas you are welcome to email me. I can't guarantee anything but all ideas are welcome! Hoodies should be ordered this week so hopefully you will have them soon!
There are ideas for extra work below also.
Do your best! Keep reading. Enjoy the sunshine and keep washing those hands! I still miss you all!

Good morning girls! Happy first day of summer! The results of the Art competition for The Guns of Easter are on our blog page so have a look!
I will put up the answers to the work for the week on Sunday. You will have no assigned work for Monday as it is a bank holiday and we will resume our work on the blog on Tuesday. Have a lovely weekend. Please read the note about the hoodies below as it is very important. Remember continue to physical distance, keep washing your hands and please adhere to the guidelines set out by our government.
Mrs. McCartan
30th April 2020 CLASS HOODIES !
I have emailed the parents of the girls who have not yet paid for hoodies. I have not emailed parents of girls who have already paid. Please check your spam or junk folder for email. We are hoping to order this weekend so please check with your parents if they received an email. I am presuming that all orders are still as we decided in school when we tried them on. If you do not wish to get a hoodie please notify me by email by tomorrow eve Friday 1st May. Otherwise we will go ahead with our order. No need to email me if you know you have paid already or if you aren't sure you can email me to check as I have the list with me. My email is [email protected]
29th April 2020
I hope you have your movie posters or book covers for Guns of Easter almost complete girls as tomorrow is the last day to enter. Don't forget to email your Art competition entry to me by tomorrow evening(Thursday 30th)at 6pm. I will choose a winning entry with my excellent panel of judges at home and will post the winning entry on the blog on Friday morning!
Winner will receive a subject pass for one day! Good luck!
IMPORTANT NOTE 27th April 2020: Good morning girls and parents,
A sincere thank you to those of you who have sent me emails to let me know how you are getting on and also to those of you who have sent me the school work I requested last week. It is lovely for me as the girls' teacher to reach out and see how the girls are doing and to let them know that I am here to help in whatever way I can. Thank you also for all of the kind wishes. I miss all of the girls and our routine in school but I am continuing to up skill doing webinars, online courses and teaching remotely. As I have not received emails back from some families I would like to make sure we have your correct email address on file. If you could email me to let me know that would be much appreciated. My email address is [email protected]. Perhaps my email has gone to your spam or junk folder so please check there also. It is very important that you are all aware that I cannot correspond with you using the children's email addresses as outlined by Mrs. McCloughan in her email letter to you last week. I would ask that all children in my class show this note to their parents so that we are all aware of this.
Many girls have been asking me about the hoodies. There is some good news on that front as we think they are available to order and we will be in touch soon about this. I have the list of orders and who has paid already and you will be notified soon about hoodies if you are still interested. At least that is a little thing to look forward to!(all going well and fingers crossed)
Please see below the work for the week ahead. I have also put up the answers to last week's work. Please correct all work from last week first before doing your homework.
When you start your homework for the week please read through the whole week's work first to give you an idea of what you are doing. That way if I make a note of what work I would like you to send me you will understand what I mean!
Don't forget if you don't understand what I am asking then send me an email. Some girls asked questions about various things last week and I was delighted to be able to help. If you need to send extra emails rather than the two new ones that Mrs. McCloughan suggested that is fine. If you need help I am so happy to oblige!
Finally, it is Active Week this week so get out and about moving and try to make sure you do exercise every day. Check out activeschoolflag.ie and click on the link Active Home Week for more ideas! There is also a chart you can download and fill in all the activities you have done every day for the week. This is optional but might be nice to send on to me! If you have any problem downloading it send me an email and I can email it to you. Normally we would be dancing in the yard and doing active lines etc. but this year is a little different! Maybe you could send me some pictures of how you and your family are keeping active! (I might even post one of myself!) Please remember I cannot put up pictures with one child in them. You must have someone else in the picture with you. I have lots of pictures of various activities on the blog section of our Class Blog.
Have a great week! Stay safe, physical distance, keep washing those hands and keep smiling. You are doing great!
Mrs. McCartan

- During this time at home it is important to look after ourselves, not just physically but also our mind. It can get a little bit lonely at home or sometimes quite the opposite it can be just too busy with brothers or sisters etc. I strongly recommend some mindful meditation. You can do it on your own or with someone at home. Either way it is worth it. You will feel very calm and relaxed after it.
Here are the helpful sheets and pages you will need for this week's work (27th April - 1st May)

20th April 2020
Good morning girls! How are you all keeping? I hope you and your family are all doing well. I am keeping well. I have been doing lots of webinars and courses over the last few weeks learning all about various online platforms and how best to teach you all remotely. I miss you all so much and I hope we see each other soon. Myself and the other 6th class teachers have meetings (online) regularly so that we plan all of your work together.
The great news is that we have set up emails for all of the teachers so that you can contact us when you need to. Mrs. McCloughan has sent an email to your parents already about the guidelines around using these new emails. Please make sure you and your parents read the guidelines and they are also available on the 'school news' section of the school website. Only parent emails can be used to correspond with me so please do not email me from your own account if you have one.
I will send your parents an email on Monday 20th April from my teacher email account and then you are free to email me as per the guidelines. I will ask for some work to be sent to me and this can be done by taking a photograph or sending me a word document. I will specify each week what I would like you to send. If you have any problems doing this let me know and I will help you.
Good luck with the work this week. We are perhaps doing a little more than we have been but if you have any problems with anything you can let me know in an email.
Please email me today if you get a chance as I would love to hear from you and let me know what you have been doing and how you are feeling. I understand that you need to ask your parents to use their email account so please do this at a time that suits them! My teacher email is [email protected]
I can't wait to hear from you!
Take care,
Mrs. McCartan
Work for 20th April – 24th April
**Please ask your parents to check their junk mail in case my email does not go directly to their inbox. If you did not receive an email from me let me know by emailing me at [email protected]
Before you send me any work I would just love to hear from you and see how you are getting on!
Please email Teacher the following work this week:
1. Please send me your diary entry when it is completed. This can be in a word document attached to your email or a photograph of your hand written piece. (see Friday's homework)

Hi girls! How are you all doing? I hope you and your families are all keeping well. Myself and my family are keeping well and doing our best to keep busy and get some fresh air. I really miss you all and hopefully we will be in contact soon and I can see how you are all getting on. Firstly, I will give you some of the answers from Reading Zone and Master your Maths from last week. After that you will find the assigned work for this week. There will also be helpful photos and links after the assigned work when you scroll down. I will also include some extra activities for anyone who would like more work. You do not have to do these as they are completely optional!! Don't forget Home School Hub on RTE 2 where Primary School Teachers are teaching some fun lessons and you get opportunities to do some fun activities. I loved the Science lesson for Tuesday! It is on at 11am during the school week.
Please only do what you can and what your parents feel is right for you. Please make sure you keep washing your hands and adhere to our guidelines on social distancing and staying at home. Well done to you all for doing your part every day. I am so proud of you all. Take care and have a good week.
Mrs. McCartan
PS. I made some yummy chocolate buns with chocolate frosting this week with my two girls- maybe we can try them out when we get back to school!!!!

Homework Update 21st March
Hi girls! How are you all? I miss you all and I hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy. How is your reading going? I started a new book and have read 4 chapters but next week I intend to read more. Check below for the answers for reading zone and maths. from last week. You can correct these yourselves in your book/copy. I will post next week's work on the blog on Sunday 22nd March. You are great at self assessment at this stage so check through your written work and make sure you fix those mistakes! Don't forget to help out at home as much as you can and try doing some new things. I have tried to get out walking to get some fresh air most days. It feels good to get out for a while but make sure you adhere to the social distancing rules of keeping 2 metres away from others!! Hopefully this will all pass soon and we will all be able to share stories when we get back to school. I will also assign some optional activities for you to do but remember these are OPTIONAL!!! Only do what you can. There is absolutely no pressure to get them completed. Keep well and I will see you all soon.
Mrs. McCartan
Homework Activities during school closure
I will post activities on Monday 16th March for all of my 6th class girls . I will try to keep the activities as straight forward as possible so they are easy to follow but also beneficial. Do your best to do the activities but if for any reason you cannot complete them that is no problem. Keeping healthy is the most important thing right now. Keep following the advice of our medical experts and I will see you all soon. In the meantime take care and keep up with your reading!
